Kettlebell & Plyo Workout

Good snowy monday morning! I hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine included lots of fitness, food, and fun as usual! Friday evening included a trip to Petco for a NEW PARAKEET. Meet Lucky:

Saturday Angus and I went to a hot yoga class at Greener Postures followed by a walk in the old port and lobster bisque for dinner at my parent’s house. On Sunday we went for a bike ride (first of the season) with some friends from college and then we were finally able check out the new rock gym in Portland and had a great afternoon climbing!

Now here’s a great workout to kick off your week. I’ve done this myself, and have taught it in a few classes and everyone’s been loving it!  All you need are two kettlebells (1 larger, and one smaller) and a box for box jumps. If you don’t have a box, burpees are a great substitution. 🙂

Basil Feta Turkey Meatballs

photo copy 9Good morning! I’m gearing up to  teach 4 classes today at three different places but thought I would share a quick and easy recipe first! I’ve been making this dish a lot and it’s quickly becoming a go-to recipe when I don’t have a lot of time to cook. (Like on 4 class days!) They always come out fabulous! I usually have them over “zoodles” aka zucchini noodles and red sauce.

Spin Saturday Playlist

I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far! Yesterday started out with an awesome spin class at Quest Cycle followed by some errands, then some shopping and walking in the Old Port before a dinner out at the Corner Room. Oh yeah, and we bought a new dryer. HOW EXCITING. Sort of. If this one doesn’t shrink my clothes I will be very happy but it’s a very boring thing to spend 500 bucks on. I think I got my money’s worth out of our last dryer that I bought for 50 bucks at a yard sale and we’ve used for almost three years now…

Okay, here’s the playlist! Some new songs and a few throwbacks 🙂

What Was in My Stitch Fix Box?

photo 3 copy 7

Good afternoon! So some of you know that I recently decided to give “Stitch Fix” a try. I’ve already had so many questions about what it’s like so I thought I would write a blog post on it! Let’s get down to business.

How does it work?

First, you start by going to stitchfix.com. From there you will fill out a very detailed questionnaire that covers everything from sizes, colors you like/dislike, styles you might want to try, age, etc. After you fill out a questionnaire you can choose when you would like your package to arrive. Cool!

Sounds good, but how much is this going to cost me?

They charge a 20.00 “styling fee”. This is all you will have to pay to try the service, even if you want to send all of the clothes back. If you send everything back, you can say good bye to your 20.00 and move on with life. If you decide that you would like to purchase something, the 20.00 fee can be used towards the purchase and then you can send the rest back!

What if I love everything?

If you love everything you’re actually in luck. If you purchase all 5 items you will receive a 25% discount plus you can still deduct the 20.00 styling fee from your purchase.

I didn’t like anything! Now what?

They give you a prepaid envelope that you can send the things back in. No cost for you! You have three days to decide what you would like to keep and what you would like to send back.

What was in my box?

1. Teal tank top. $44.00

2. Airy Knit Sweater. $48.00

3. Striped Maxi Skirt. $48.00

Thoughts?

I thought this was really fun. I loved the element of surprise when my package showed up at my door and I had no clue what would be in it. It’s just like christmas! That’s almost worth the 20.00 in itself. I loved most of the items that were in my box and they surprisingly fit really well. I liked that the clothes just showed up on my doorstep and they were things that I wouldn’t necessarily pick out if I went shopping. The downside? I thought the price of the clothes was expensive. The quality is probably on par with tj maxx but they’re much more pricey. Since I hate trying to weed through clothes to find something I might like, paying the premium price doesn’t seem that bad to me. It also gets me away from wearing black spandex all of the time. Win! I won’t be doing this every month but will definitely be trying it again when I need some new clothes. Overall it’s definitely worth giving it a try. 🙂

Comment below with what piece of clothing you think I should keep!

Vermont Ski Weekend

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I was really excited when I got an e-mail yesterday from my boss saying that we could wear green to work today instead of the usual black. I thought this would be really fun until I realized that I don’t have a single piece of green activewear. So I’ll be wearing black, just like every day.

This weekend was spent up in Vermont visiting some family friends for a ski weekend. Friday night we enjoyed homemade pizzas in Bob’s brick oven. THE BEST! On Saturday the rain held off enough to get a great day of skiing in. The conditions were pretty good but man the slopes were crowded. At one point the trails were like a tsunami of skiers. We skied at Stowe and I couldn’t believe that ticket prices were 108.00! We didn’t pay that price but I’m sure lots of people on the slopes did. Unbelievable! After skiing on Saturday we visited a friend of Angus and went to see his new house that he built before coming back and relaxing by the fire with some wine. We also enjoyed this treat from Laughing Moon Chocolates in Stowe. A GIANT CARAMEL APPLE! I was in heaven.

On Sunday we went back to the mountain for another day of skiing. It snowed a few inches overnight so the conditions were awesome! Visibility was another story though. You couldn’t see ANYTHING at the top of the mountain! And it was windy. Very windy. We skied a half day before getting ready to head back to Maine. On our way out of town we stopped at the Laughing Moon Chocolate store that was recommended to us and got a few treats. Definitely stop there if you’re ever in the area! It is fabulous. Then we stopped at the Ben and Jerry’s factory. Just because. 🙂 We took a little detour through Portsmouth on the way home and had dinner at the Portsmouth Brewery to break up the drive. Luckily we arrived home just in time to squeeze the last episode of House of Cards season 3 before bed. Why is the best episode always the last in the season?!? I can’t wait for more 🙂

Chicken Salad Boats

photo10

How was your weekend? Mine was fabulous! Started Saturday off by teaching a great class at Quest Cycle and then went out for a little ski with Angus at Riverside Golf Course. I got a coupon for a buy one get one free gelato from the gelato fiasco so obviously that got used as well. Saturday night Angus headed to Sunday River to meet up with some friends and I went to the mall. Holy moly the mall on Saturday. BUT I found the running shoes I was looking for for only 70 bucks. So it was worth it. Sort of. Then I spent the evening eating sushi and watching movies that Angus wouldn’t want to watch. Sunday was spent doing a lot of cleaning, a lot of chillin, and a quick run + workout at the Y.

Did anyone make chicken over the weekend? Wondering what to do with all that leftover chicken? Here is a quick and easy recipe for lunch. I got  the inspiration for this off of Pinterest but then I simplified it, and then my romaine lettuce wouldn’t roll up into cute little wraps. So there you have it, chicken salad boats… not wraps. Since I teach spin classes during lunch time three days a week I am always on the lookout for a quick, easy, and healthy lunch. By the time I get back from class, it’s already late and I’m so hungry so taking a lot time to prepare something really isn’t in the cards. Plus: ain’t nobody got the time for that. Oh yeah, and I HATE mayo. So this is not your traditional chicken salad…

Chicken Salad Boats

  • Diced chicken (I think I used about 1.5 cups,)
  • 1/3 cup diced granny smith apple
  • 1/3 cup halved red grapes
  • 2 TBS almond butter
  • Romaine lettuce leaves

Combine chicken, apple, and grapes in a bowl or tupperware container. Add almond butter and stir or put a lid on your container and shake it around. Then you can either roll up the mixture in lettuce (good luck) or eat it open faced like I did. Or you can make an actual salad and cut up the lettuce. This will keep in the fridge (chopped apple and all) for another day so enjoy having leftovers!

Spin Saturday Playlist

Happy weekend! I’m gearing up to teach a full class at Quest this morning and thought I would share my playlist with everyone first. Even though there are still many feet of snow left on the ground the temperatures are finally getting a tad warmer and this weekend is Daylight Saving Time! Which means MORE LIGHT AT NIGHT! Usually this is the time of year I start riding my road bike again but it looks like that won’t be happening this year. Good thing those 6 spin classes I teach every week keep me pretty busy. 😉 Anyway, here are some new tunes. I hope you all have a fabulous weekend and get out and enjoy some sunshine!

4×6 Workout

Hello! The sun is finally shining and the weather is warming up JUST enough for me to start thinking spring around here. Yesterday I went for my first outdoor run of the season and it was snowy but it was nice not being freezing. I also saw a baby french bulldog in Capisic Park which means I will be running through there a lot more to try to see it again. ANYWAY… here is a great workout. I made my class at the Y do it a few weeks ago, then I thought it looked awesome so I tried it, and then I gave it to Angus. Then Angus lost the workout. And now there are tiny shreds of paper all over our laundry. hmmm…. So, I decided to recreate it and post it on the internet so it won’t go through the laundry again. Now everyone can enjoy it. Have a great Tuesday!!!Unknown
